I found it to be very inspiring. Misty gives a lot of credit to her parents, coaches, and teammates in this book which I thought was touching and showed that she could not be where she is now without such a phenomenal support system. While the book provides insight into the hard work and lifestyle of a professional athlete, I would recommend it more for volleyball fans.
I think it is that much more meaningful to understand the types of drills and games she discusses. She outlines her experiences with high school, college, AVP and international volleyball and also talks about her transition from indoor to beach. But it was a perfect mix because while it is very heavily focused on her volleyball career since that's what she is known for, there were a lot of personal anecdotes that were not about volleyball that were equally as touching and inspiring such as her grief after her mother's death, meeting her husband, and her life after returning to the United States as an Olympic champion.
One might expect this book to really delve into the volleyball world of Misty May-Treanor however it truly is the story of her life. There is so much more to who she is and how she got to where she is. Would you say that she grew up in the right location for this to happen, absolutely. Did she take advantage of each and every opportunity and bust her butt to do so, with the support of her family and friends, absolutely.
Misty appears so nonchalant and down to earth through her writing that I can only wish to meet her and see if that's who she is in person as well. If what she says is true, which I can believe as I've watched Kerri Walsh play and everything Misty says is spot on, than she is one incredibly and remarkable athlete and person. This autobiography is about Misty May-Treanor, a three time olympic gold medalist, and her experiences throughout her volleyball career and childhood.
I found this book really inspiring. For example, as a young girl, both her parents were alcoholics. She had to live as an only child with two drunk adults in her home for much of her childhood. Misty also struggled when her mom died at a young age. Also, I play volleyball, so I could connect to the book.
For example, she wrote about how at her club team's nationals when she was a teenager, they lost to a team called Sports Performance. I've played that club in my volleyball tournaments! I overall really enjoyed this book, and I would highly suggest it to other readers. Hailey C. As long as I have read this book it's been amazing.
There is so much action, adventures with Misty, and things that I did not know about Misty. There was a few things that I thought was a little too much for me to know, but it was only a few parts. The pictures in the middle were fun to see, o didn't just have to read her adventures, but see them too. Many of the words were too big for me to understand.
Reading this book made me realize that she isn't at all so serious, and the hard time she had with her mother passing away.
I can relate to that because my father had just passed away. I recommend this book be read 14 or older. Priscilla Cho. Misty May-Treanor is one of my many role models. I think it's amazing that in the midst of all her difficulties, she was able to stay determined, and work for her dream. She had some rough times in her life yet she turned out to be a very successful athlete.
Even through all the obstacles, she was able to keep going. In this book she talks about her journey to getting two of her gold medals. Her book really, really shows the importance of hard work. Some of the stories she shared in her autobiography made me laugh or smile, while others made me really reflect on my own life. This book is one of my all time favorites, and it's definitely something that will make you feel inspired.
She lives in California with her husband Jim and their beloved golden retreiver Fenway.

I have read several books in this series and I have liked them all even though I don't care for the Clinton's and their politics I love that it is preaching "Girls can do it" and "Keep going" Great message! I am a fan of Kerri was pregnant!
She is in incredible shape! Paul Vogelzang. Chelsea is bright, intuitive, and an excellent historian.

Great writer, too. I've read the series and love this one, too. The publisher shared the book with me and I've interviewed Chelsea, too. An important book for our times, no question. This series continues with introductions to several American women who changed their sports. They persevered and conquered odds to excel and be role models.

Emily Carlyn. Many stories I had never heard of! Short paragraph stories, with highlights of each career - even the highlights of when they were young children. It can start early! With anything. Great mix of athletes and sports, both historical and present day. Amazing women showing our children to persist! This one had a good mix of women I knew of and women I didn't.
This latest compellation in the She Persisted series focuses on American Olympians who changed the game. The cover is a bit misleading with it featuring a muslimintheillustration as a tennis player, I think it is meant to show young readers that they too can excel in any sport regardless of race, religion, mobility, but none-the-less among the 16 real athletes introduced within the text is the phenomenal, Ibtihaj Muhammad.
The book is an AR 6. It was obviously very inspirational, but I also loved how it presented the historical information within the book. For example, I knew Kristi Yamaguchi was an extremely famous ice skater… But I had no idea that she grew up with a club foot? Ben Truong. The word is literally highlighted on every page and is defined through thirteen different women from the United States who are Olympians that changed the sport.
Clinton's text is simplistic and easy to understand and demonstrated what these amazing women did through their adversities and persevered when the world was against them. Boiger's art is simply wonderful and colorful, which keeps the young reader captivated.

Still, coauthor Steeg, a senior writer at Sports Illustrated, keeps the narrative flowing and injects enough humor to maintain interest.
A rather good selection of women that made the book somewhat balanced and a somewhat decent representation. All in all, She Persisted in Sports: American Olympians Who Changed the Game is a wonderful children's book targeted mainly for young girls, but it is relevant for young boys too and adults alike. It teaches children to be persistence no matter the odds, while learning about these amazing women and perhaps creates some new heroes.

I read Misty's book a few years ago and recognized some of the content from that book in this one. Maybe Kerry Walsh needs to write her own book.
