When was frank gehry born
This interest in unconventional building materials would come to characterize Gehry's architectural work. Gehry relocated to Los Angeles in , holding a variety of jobs while attending college. It was during his time that he changed his Goldberg surname to Gehry, in an effort to preclude anti-Semitism.
He later dropped out of Harvard and divorced his wife, with whom he had two daughters. In , Gehry married Berta Isabel Aguilera, and had two more children. After leaving Harvard, Frank Gehry returned to California, making a name for himself with the launch of his "Easy Edges" cardboard furniture line. The Easy Edges pieces, crafted from layers of corrugated cardboard, sold between and Still primarily interested in building rather than furniture design, Gehry remodeled a home for his family in Santa Monica with the money earned from Easy Edges.
The remodel involved surrounding the existing bungalow with corrugated steel and chain-link fence, effectively splitting the house open with an angled skylight. Gehry's avant-garde design caught the attention of the architectural world, ultimately launching his career to new heights. He began designing homes in Southern California on a regular basis in the s.
As Gehry achieved celebrity status, his work took on a grander scale. The Santa Monica home, like much of Gehry's work, is an example of the Deconstructivist style—a post-structuralist aesthetic that challenges accepted design paradigms of architecture while breaking with the modernist ideal of form following function.
Gehry was one of a number of contemporary architects pursuing this style, which, for years, has been particularly visible in California.

Gehry is known for his choice of unusual materials as well as his architectural philosophy. His selection of materials such as corrugated metal lends some of Gehry's designs an unfinished or even crude aesthetic. This consistent aesthetic has made Gehry one of the most distinctive and easily recognizable designers of the recent past.
Begun before the Bilbao museum, 16 years went by before completion. Gehry received a long list of awards including the Pritzker Prize for architecture in , the most prestigious award given to an architect, and more than awards from the American Institute of Architects to honor outstanding architectural design.
On March 2, , representatives of the City of Las Vegas , Nevada, announced that Gehry would be the architect for the Alzheimer's Research Center, one of the projects that will make up the acre downtown urban village. The mayor of Las Vegas said Gehry's building "will be a piece of artwork that will draw people from around the world who will marvel at its beauty.

Canadian-born American architect- originally Goldberg. He settled in California , where he built several single-family houses from which most traditional forms were expunged.
He has specialized in using ordinary materials in an unusual way, in destroying structural logic, in playing down the problems caused by weather, and in disdaining gravity as a determinant of form. More recently, his firm has completed the steel-clad Performing Arts Center, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY —2 , the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles , CA ——giving the impression of a partly-melted building , the Rasin Fred and Ginger Building, Prague ——also resembling a partly-melted structure , and the Maggie Cancer Centre, Dundee, Scotland —3—a small building in which, nevertheless, the geometries are as complicated as in his larger projects perhaps overly so.
His The Experience Music project, Seattle , has been considered as one example of Blobismus too many. Gehry has been identified with Deconstructivism. Gehry, Frank Owen gale. Rubenstein 2 nd ed.
