In , Adolf Hitler's Nazi party came to power. The Ledermanns, faced with the threat of death because they were Jews, emigrated to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In , the Nazis invaded the Netherlands, and Sanne had to shift to a Jewish school. Sanne moved to a Jewish school, but Hanneli and Anne moved to a different Jewish school.

However, Sanne still kept good contacts with both Anne and Hanneli, and was a member of the pingpong club Little Bear Minus Two, which was formed by her friends. In July , Anne and her family went to hiding, although Sanne didn't know about this. Amsterdam was soon occupied by the Germans. When Susanne was 13, the Germans forced the Jews out of public schools and Susanne enrolled in a Jewish school.

By June the Germans were deporting Jews, ostensibly to work camps in the "East. On June 20, , Susanne and her parents were deported to the Westerbork camp in the Netherlands. In they were sent to Auschwitz , where Susanne perished. She was 15 years old. Read Edit View history.
